Emergency Shutdown Valve (ESDV)
An Emergency Shutdown Valve (ESDV) is a safety-critical component used in oil & gas, chemical, and industrial plants to immediately isolate a process in case of emergencies, such as fire, gas leaks, or pressure surges.
How Does an ESD Valve Work?
- Normal Operation: The valve remains open to allow fluid flow.
- Emergency Signal Triggered: The system detects an emergency (e.g., high pressure, fire, gas leak).
- Actuator Activates: The valve receives a shutdown command and moves to the fail-safe position (closed).
- Flow is Stopped: The valve completely isolates the pipeline to prevent hazards.
- Manual or Automatic Reset: The system is inspected, and the valve is manually or automatically reset.
• ON-OFF valve intended for emergency situations.
• Long periods of time at the same position (opened) until an emergency occurs.
• Required stroking times, especially for safety position.
• Single acting actuators. FAIL CLOSE.
• Manual reset pneumatic valves.
• Pneumatic control configuration: 1oo1, 1oo2.
• PST. / SIL. / Hazardous locations.
• An ESDV valve is controlled by the Emergency Shut-Down system (ESD/SIS)
